Violets

These were her children

Proud and pampered.

Poised to perform

They lined the stage

A petal distance apart

Dressed in royal blue and purple

Their faces pressed against the panes

Encouraged by kind hands

They were tiny heralds of joy

Standing defiant against a gray world

About this poem: This was written as a tribute to my mother. Mom always grew violets in small containers on windowsills.
