I will be more precise
with my wonder,
knowing each bird by sight and call,
the blue jay, the nuthatch,
the chickadee.
I will know the names
of all the trees,
the Japanese maple,
the sycamore, the cottonwood.
I will recite the attributes
of all the native plants
golden ragwort, pale purple coneflower,
azure blue sage,
and celebrate the Spicebush Swallowtail,
the butterfly with clouds and moons
on its wings.
I will take notes at the pond’s edge
listing each tadpole, each water lily,
each migrating swan.
I will mark every single sunrise,
every single sunset,
with precise wonder,
knowing every beginning
and every end
is an infinite miracle.
