Nuclear Candles

The Sun burns
with nuclear bursts
of unimaginable
size and scale,
pouring light
and energy all over.

A true nuclear power,
a cosmic one—
it makes the stockpiles
we built look like toys.

Not a lone star either—
the mighty Sun
and billions of its star siblings—
celebrated as the candles
in the skies,
in our unenlightened
and pre-science past,
makes us wonder—

ought there be
more audience to this light
streaming from these confetti
of nuclear candles
than what meets the eye?

For what an infinite
waste it is to brighten
the skies just for us!

Are we that special?
