I Read Polar Bears Cannibalize Their Young
because their home is melting,
seals are almost impossible
to find now, and hunger is hunger,
the wildest desire of all.
I can’t help but think of the mouth
of my mother, how freezing,
full of icicles that bite.
Her hunger for my young flesh
turns into a wildfire in time, it melts
our home, kills every prey
but me. My hunger for freedom
becomes a cool climate
where I survive only by climbing
a glacier that I call poetry.
